Nexus Sprint Planning
Cross-team then per-team
Nexus Sprint Planning happens in two phases: first, representatives from all teams coordinate on cross-team concerns and dependencies. Then each team conducts its own Sprint Planning. The Nexus-level phase ensures teams are aligned before they plan independently.
Nexus Daily Scrum
Cross-team coordination
The Nexus Daily Scrum is a daily event where representatives from each team meet to identify integration issues and cross-team dependencies discovered since the last sync. It’s not a status meeting — it’s focused exclusively on cross-team concerns. Teams then hold their own Daily Scrums.
Nexus Sprint Review
Integrated product review
The Nexus Sprint Review replaces individual team Sprint Reviews. The entire Nexus presents the Integrated Increment to stakeholders. This is one review for the whole product — demonstrating that the combined work of all teams creates integrated value.
Nexus Sprint Retrospective
Three-part improvement
The Nexus Sprint Retrospective has three parts: (1) cross-Nexus issues identified by representatives, (2) individual team retrospectives incorporating Nexus themes, (3) representatives reconvene to agree on shared improvement actions. This structure ensures both team-level and Nexus-level improvements.
Cross-Team Refinement
Dependency reduction
Cross-Team Refinement is where dependency reduction happens. The Product Backlog must be understood at a level where dependencies can be detected and minimized. Teams refine together for items that span multiple teams, and independently for team-specific items.
